wild beasts – smother – end come soon

the british lads released their third album last week. it’s a denser and more mellow record than two dancers, but it’s lush and after some serious listens, it may be my favorite wild beasts album to date. it’s pretty transcendent and once it gets you, don’t bother letting go. the last track is an epic seven and a half minute killer with thorpe’s vocals begging you to undress. yes, very sexy. www.wild-beasts.co.uk

wild beasts – we still got the taste dancin’ on our tongues – through the iron gate

these english blokes hold a soft spot in my heart. to put it plainly, i think they are bloody incredible. a year after the release of their second album, two dancers, they have been nominated for the 2010 mercury prize. former mercury prize winners include pulp, elbow, artic monkeys, gomez, and badly drawn boy. if that ain’t good compnay, i don’t know what is. wild beasts’ label, domino, is releasing a new ep for free in honor of their golden boys. this track is a b-side and in true good b-side fashion is as good as anything they’ve released on their first two albums. and as always, hayden thorpe’s voice is revelation. really, he could sing the phone book and i’d post it. done gushing.
