the shins – port of morrow – simple song

the powerhouse directing duo daniels teamed up with james mercer and made another spectacular video for all parties involved. daniels are unstoppable at this point and everything they do pretty knocks my balls off. the shins are readying one hell of a return and this family drama with a twist is the perfect vehicle for the excellent tune. enjoy!

it’s 2007. james mercer and his albuquerque bunch release their third and final album for sub pop. i love this band. i love this song. it is gorgeous, epic, and untouchable. if port of morrow, their next album due for release next month, comes anywhere near as brilliant as this song. i’m sold.

it’s been five long years since james mercer new shins tunes, but he and his new bunch have finally released a tune from their upcoming fourth album and it’s absolutely lovely. the album is set for release this march on their new label, columbia. www.simplesong.theshins.com

broken bells annouce shows

broken bells, made up of the shins’ james mercer and danger mouse , have annouced their first shows as the new band. the first is tonight, yes tonight, in los angeles, and then they’ll travel to  france, england, and finally return to austin, texas to play with spoon and the walkmen as part of the npr showcase concert. the album drops march 9th, a mere 18 days away. yipeeeeee!

the strokes are back in the studio

the strokes are finally back in the studio working on a new album. it’s been 4 years since the band has released an album together. virtually every member of the band has released a side project since then. they will be working with the white stripes, the shins, and my morning jacket producer joe chiccarelli. bring it boys.

danger mouse, real name brian burton, has succeeded at yet another collaboration with an indie rock figure. this time it’s the shins’ james mercer. a good match indeed.
