broken bells release album as music box with new track

if the self titled album isn’t enough broken bells for ya and you just want more of the goodness, you are in for a treat. the duo are releasing a special deluxe cd version of the album as a music box. the box is a throw back to it’s 19th century roots, vintage and all. when you slide the box out, a light sensor is triggered and the new 8 minute instrumental track called “the overture” plays. columbia records hid the special deluxe cd boxes in 10 select cities this week, posted pictures of them on twitter, and finder’s keepers. now that is an album release done right.

the black keys sixth album out in may

after various side projects, the black keys will release their sixth album, brothers, may 18th. hoorah! don’t get me wrong, i love all the hip hop collaborations, but it’ll be good to hear them get dirty again. danger mouse, who produced their last album, only produced one song, “tighten up”, on the forthcoming, the album was recorded at the famous muscle shoals studio in alabama.

broken bells annouce shows

broken bells, made up of the shins’ james mercer and danger mouse , have annouced their first shows as the new band. the first is tonight, yes tonight, in los angeles, and then they’ll travel to  france, england, and finally return to austin, texas to play with spoon and the walkmen as part of the npr showcase concert. the album drops march 9th, a mere 18 days away. yipeeeeee!

danger mouse, real name brian burton, has succeeded at yet another collaboration with an indie rock figure. this time it’s the shins’ james mercer. a good match indeed.
