amy winehouse found dead

the troubled british songtress was found dead in her london home yesterday. there is no determined cause of death at the moment. she was 27. this was a life taken far too soon and a great talent we’ve lost.

new radiohead song

our favorite band debuted this new song, “staircase”, from nigel godrich’s from the basement which will be broadcast around the world july 1st. there hasn’t been a tour announced for king of limbs yet, so this will be our chance to watch them perform the album live. check out the new song below.

lcd soundsystem to perform their last show

the band have released an official statement on their website stating, ” lcd soundsytem are playing madison square garden on april 2nd, and it will be our last show ever. we are retiring from the game. gettin’ out. movin’ on. but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours–playing stuff we’ve never played before and going out with a bang. and we’d like you to be there.” we saw this one coming, but it’s a shame indeed. you lucky east coasters better brave the weather and get your butts to what will undoubtedly be an epic departure.

no more white stripes

well, meg and jack are ending their rein as rock’s power duo. their website states, “the reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both meg and jack are feeling fine and in good health. it is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way… the white stripes do not belong to meg and jack anymore. the white stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. the beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. thank you for sharing this experience. your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.” very eloquent kids, very eloquent.

dan deacon scoring new coppola film

dan deacon has been at the forefront of electronic music for the later half of the last decade. he’s been announced as the composer for francis ford coppola’s next film, twixt now and sunrise, which has been described as a “gothic romance.” the film will star one of my favs, val kilmer, alongside ben chaplin and elle fanning. much like the announcement of daft punk scoring disney’s tron, i have wet myself with shock and excitment. i’m sure twixt now and sunrise will be a better film than tron, so let’s hope this great musician’s talents do not go to waste.

wolf parade go on hiatus

canada’s wolf parade announced at a show in toronto last friday that the group was playing their last show for a while that night… faces fell i’m sure, like mine, when i heard the news. one of the band’s frontmen dan boeckner told their fan site the group was taking an “indefinite hiatus”. whatever indefinite means, i am one sad pumpkin. luckily boeckner’s rad side project handsome furs is releasing a new album next year, but wtf wolf parade, wtf…

the xx take home the mercury prize

clap claps all around for the london three piece for taking home the famed mercury prize overseas. their self titled debut album beat out paul weller, foals, wild beasts, laura marling, mumford and sons, villagers, biffy clyro, corinne bailey rae, i am kloot, dizzee rascal, and kit downes. the xx also takes home £20,000 to boot. booyah.
