flashback of the week

bjork – homogenic – all is full of love

it’s 1997. the icelandic wonder releases her fourth album and the knees of the world buckle. the album’s closer, “all is full of love”, was the album’s last single and the video is, hands down, one of the best. ever. chris cunningham, genius that he is, creates some of the most unforgettable images set to music this world has seen. gushing? absolutely.

flashback of the week

death grips – the money store – i’ve seen footage

the sacramento bunch are certainly the most interesting hip hop team to come around in a while and their debut album officially drops this week. the buzz surrounding them is high and the video for their lead single is memorable to say the least. it’s a series of various single frame shots that is mind-numbing and most likely headache-inducing, but damn the video is cool.

song of the day

beck – i only have eyes for you

washington d.c.’s hirshhorn museum building has been home to a giant 360 degree sound and visual installation by multimedia artist doug aitken since march. it features 11 projectors and covers of beloved songs by some pretty dope bands, including this gem of a cover by beck. the flamingo’s “i only have eyes for you” is one of my all time favorites and he does the classic more than justice. you can catch the art project if you are in the d.c. area through may 13th. check out the promo video below. www.beck.com www.hirshhorn.si.edu/exhibitions
