radiohead – cut a hole & indentikit

yes, that’s right, two songs kids, and videos to boot. what i wouldn’t have given to be in miami last night for the start of radiohead’s american tour. not only did they play two new songs, but they finally played “meeting in the aisle”, which is a fantastic b-side from 1997. both new tunes will make any fan weak and wet. www.ateaseweb.com

ane brun – it’s all starts with one – do you remember

the swedish songstress and her megapipes are back with a new album that’s hitting the states this may. this is the album’s lead single and it’s an energetic beast. it’s tribal rhythm is the perfect background for her perfect ten voice. you’ll hear more standout vocals from fellow swedes, first aid kit, in the background. www.anebrun.com

crocodiles – endless flowers – sunday (psychic conversation #9)

the san diego fuzz factory are back with a new album this june. this is the album’s first single and it’s a fun romp around their throwback sound, sprinkled with pop flair. it sounds like summer is going to get quite the upgrade with the return of our favorite swamp friendlies. www.facebook.com/killcrocodiles

flashback of the week

eurythmics – touch – here comes the rain again

it’s 1983. the british pop icons release their third album. annie lenox has one of the most recognizable female voices of our time and her eccentricity is just as famous, in fact the pair are a little cooky, but ever-lovable. if you didn’t put this onto your 80′s tape mix, and then burn it onto a cd, and then transfer it onto your computer to enjoy on your i-product, well then, i guess, we can’t relate.

video of the week

the shins – port of morrow – simple song

the powerhouse directing duo daniels teamed up with james mercer and made another spectacular video for all parties involved. daniels are unstoppable at this point and everything they do pretty knocks my balls off. the shins are readying one hell of a return and this family drama with a twist is the perfect vehicle for the excellent tune. enjoy!

song of the day

dead mellotron – glitter – stranger

the baltimore bunch are releasing a new album this may. this is the first sweet and fuzzy single. it’s whoozy galore. i.e. perfect sunday music. it’s a cleaner sound than 2010′s s/t, but there’s still plenty of reverb to satisfy any weekend hangover. www.deadmellotron.com

song of the day

the mynabirds – generals

laura burhenn is back with her sophomore album in june. anticipation and expectations are high because her debut, what we lose in the fire we gain in the flood, is loved by all. the energetic title track from generals does not dissapoint. it’s a political themed album and you’ll hear below, she’s got plenty to say with plenty of that sexy attitude. www.themynabirds.com

song of the day

gorillaz featuring andre 3000 and james murphy – doyathing

converse commissioned this crazy collaboration. the bunch recorded for three days in london and i’m sure swapped stories we’d all hurt a loved one to be privy to. the song’s parts are better than the whole, but it’s such a fun project and ultimately such a fun song, it’s weekend worth for sure. www.converse.com

song of the day

m. ward – a wasteland companion – primitive girl

finally, m. ward sans deschanel. bless her adorable self, but m.ward is a badass on his own and it’s high time he released new solo tunage. his seventh album releases this april and this track from a wasteland companion is ward twinkling and adorable. www.mwardmusic.com

song of the day

skaters – schemers

this new york tri of lads have opened for the strokes and when you listen below, you’ll hear why. they are feet thumping, fun, and rockin. this is adorable garage pop that is a whopping free buckaroos on their website. grab the download and jump your way into a better hump day. www.skatersnyc.com

song of the day

xiu xiu – always – beauty towne

the california avant-garde duo return with a new record next month and another track from always has surfaced. it’s wonderfully glitchy and has melodious moments that complement the song’s more unusual tones well. jamie stewart and his rotating sidekicks have been around for a decade now, but it doesn’t sound like xiu xiu is slowly down one bit. www.xiuxiu.org

song of the day

blur – under the westway

i very rarely post live performance clips as the song of the day, but this is blur and this is blur being really good. they played a brit awards benefit show last night and surprised the audience, lucky bastards, with this brand spanking new song. it’s a ballad that should make any blur fan weak in the knees. www.blur.co.uk

flashback of the week

elvis costell0 – this year’s model – pump it up

it’s 1978. the london lad and his famous glasses release his second album, produced by another rock icon, nick lowe. the album features two of costello’s most recognizable songs, “radio, radio” and this classic tune that is hands down one of the best rock and roll songs ever. mr. costello has released over 30 albums to date and continues to be a badass.

video of the week

rhye – open

this l.a. duo are shrouded in mystery, but the video for their first single bares it all, literally. it’s chock-full of naked couples smooching and grinding. the video is a gorgeous portrayal of all the glories of love-making and serves the equally gorgeous tune well. if valetine’s day didn’t leave you wanting, this surely will. enjoy!

song of the day

light asylum – shallow tears

i have been mildly to severely obsessed with this new york duo for the past year. they’ve announced the release of their self-titled debut album this may on mexican summer. this is the album’s first single. as always, shannon funchess’ vocals are perfectly matched over bruno’s synths and drums and the result is another gorgeous and soaring track. www.lightasylum.com
