flashback of the week

the jesus and mary chain – psychocandy – just like honey

it’s 1985. the glasgow bunch release their debut album featuring this amazing track, which aside from being used at the end of lost in translation is their most notable song, next to “reverance” which is on honey’s dead, their fourth album. pyschocandy has been heralded by many critics and music lovers alike as one of the best albums of all time and we agree. you just don’t hear guitar lines like the reids’ anymore.

video of the week

keepaway – black flute – cake

the brooklyn trio releases their debut album this tuesday. this video for their single “cake” from the album really exemplifies the boys’ silly nature and is just too charming to not share. they are surprisingly good at boy band faces and moves. top that with their ugliest of ugly shirts and it’s a jolly good time. enjoy!

song of the day

lissy trullie – madeleine

the new york city modern day nico is finally releasing her debut album this march. her debut ep came out in 2009, so yes, it’s been a while. tv on the radio’s dave sitek had a hand producing the album, so let’s hope the wait will have been worth it. this first taste proves it must be. this track is grimy, gritty, and downright woozy. perfect for hazy sundays. www.trullie.com
