david lynch – crazy clown time – pinky’s dream (feat. karen o)

happy day of the dead kids! i’ve been waiting for this special day to feature the unveiling of mr. lynch’s third song from his upcoming album. karen o sings on this track and the collaboration could mean nothing other than creepirific tunage. happy candy munching and ghost hunting! www.davidlynch.com

flashback of the week

dead man’s bones – dead hearts

it’s 2009. ah yes, a mere two years ago ryan gosling and zach shields surprised us all with their stellar halloween themed album. i’m sure in the years to come, it will still be my go-to candy corn eating album. if you are having a hard time getting in the ghoulish spirit, their self-titled album should do you right. oh, and don’t forget to turn off the lights.

video of the week

duck sauce – big bad wolf

you may have already seen this video because in the last week, it’s been spreading like wildfire. it’s beyond brilliant and most definitely not safe for work. it’s level 10 gross, but in-f*cking-credible. i will just say two words. crotch. faces. enjoy!

song of the day

nurses – dracula – fever dreams

i was really wanting an appropriate halloween song for the weekend and kexp reminded me of portland trio’s dracula album released last month. this is the album’s ace opener. it’s dark and driving with quirky, yet catchy vocals, i.e. the perfect halloween party hopping tune. www.myspace.com/nurses

humcast episode 15

hey kids! the new humcast has arrived just in time for halloween! get on your broomsticks and fly on over to your neighborhood itunes to enjoy or you can listen here.

song of the day

alabama shakes – on your way

formerly just the shakes, the bama bunch released a new self-titled ep last month and fans of jack white and otis redding will rejoice. they were the big winners at the cmj music festival and for good reason. their southern charm is irresistible and for those who are dressing up as hillbillies this weekend, there’s always more than enough, slap your knee to this. www.facebook.com/theAlabamaShakes

song of the day

the black keys – el camino – lonely boy

it seems like everything danger mouse touches turns into gold. his latest collaboration with the black keys sounds like another home run. the album is set for a release this december and the first single is out and it’s loud and catchy as hell with a choir to boot. www.theblackkeys.com

song of the day

karen 0 – mammas don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys

who knew karen o and chipotle would make such a powerful music making team? let me explain. chipotle has an organization called the cultivate foundation and they made a short film called abandoned to promote awareness for sustainable food and the hardships of family farmers. miss o covers the willie nelson and waylon jennings classic for the films’ soundtrack. it’s spacey. it’s gorgeous. it’s karen o people.

song of the day

chromatics – kill for love

the portland synth masters just announced their new and fourth album, kill for love, coming out next january. this is the album’s title track and you’ll hear the vocals mixed differently in this song. ruth’s voice is mixed cleanly on top of the music. it’s an effective tactic over johnny’s always dreamy synths and the result is another winner for the team. watch the single’s video below. www.facebook.com/CHROMATICSBAND

song of the day

oliver – memories of the future

drive has really resurged my love of heavy synths and 80′s electronic. oliver, the l.a. duo comprised of oliver goldstein and vaughn oliver, have a new dance track that is straight out of tron and my favorite neon era. throw on your tightest black spandex to fully enjoy or take your lady out for a spin and muse the city lights. www.facebook.com/weareolivermusic

song of the day

king krule – the noose of jah city

remember london’s 16 year-old zoo kid from last year’s single, “out getting ribs”? well, he’s a whopping 17 years-old now and has a new moniker, king krule, and a new ep out next month on true panther, home to real estate and cloud nothings. this kid is so slick and his baritone is rich, it’s hard to believe his red-headed self is singing, but the kid’s got mad soul and style. no doubt. www.facebook.com/pages/King-Krule

flashback of the week

unkle – psyence fiction – rabbit in your headlights (feat. thom yorke)

it’s 1998. the london electronic duo release their debut album. i was always a fan of dj shadow, so loving unkle’s first album was second nature. the whole album is a knockout, but in particular this song, with help from mr. yorke, is a standout, in part because the video is one of the most incredible of all time. directed by the mega genius, jonathan glazer, the payoff in this video is unmatched.

video of the week

eugene mcguinness – lion

london’s eugene mcguinness just dropped this new single and the accompanying video. it’s nothing ground breaking, but videos rarely look this good and damn, if those background dancers aren’t fun as hell to watch. the video borders on intimidating, it’s so sharp and stylized and mcguinness’s attitude is unshakable. not to mention, ladies (or men) – the man can wear a suit. enjoy.

song of the day

lost lander – drrt – cold feet

let me preface today’s song by saying, this song absolutely had me at its first “oohs” and i cannot stop listening to it. brought to you by the new portland music project led by matt sheehy and his producer brent knopf. the song is so well orchestrated, every note and instrument is precious, down to the whistles. the debut album is out soon and if any of that debut sounds as good as this, color me on board. www.lost-lander.com

song of the day

charli xcx – nuclear seasons

london’s 19 year-old charli xcx tapped into her inner marina and the diamonds to bring us her new, highly danceable pop single. it’s 80′s influence is spot on and the synths couldn’t be catchier. you better get your stretch on to tear up some linoleum for this this one. www.charlixcxmusic.com
