flashback of the week

serge gainsbourg – jane birkin/serge gainsbourg – l’anamour

it’s 1969. the famous frenchman releases his tenth album, the notorious duet album with his lady at the time, jane birkin, who “orgasms” at the end of the album’s opener. his musical career spanned four decades and his influence will span the ages to come. my parents had his records. now i have his records and will enjoy them until the end.

video of the week

battles – gloss drop – my machine

the directing duo, daniels, are pretty unstoppable at the moment. i’d be confident to say the are the best music video directors out there right now. their latest is for new york’s math rock gurus, battles, who released their sophomore album early this summer and this track features gary numan, who is also in the video. it’s a seemingly one shot take centered around an escalator. it’s brilliant. enjoy.

song of the day

the peach kings – trip wop – little things

this l.a. duo won alternative apparel’s and paste magazine’s best unsigned artist last year and the masses are slowly catching on to their self described “gypsydelic” sound. they just released a new ep featuring this easy and instantly loveable doo wop winner. put your feet up and enjoy the little things. you can stream the whole ep on their bandcamp.
