flashback of the week

otis redding – pain in my heart

it’s 1964. one of memphis’ most influential musicians of all time and one of our ‘kings of soul’ releases his debut album. he died in a plane crash three years after the release of this album at the age of 26. in 1968 “sittin on the dock of the bay” became the first posthumous number one single in the states. the title track from his debut is still one of my favorite songs of, well, ever. legend, legend, legend…

video of the week

strange boys – live music – me and you

austin’s strange boys are set to release their third album next month. this is their first single with accompanying video. it really doesn’t get more charming than this kids. shot on a low-budget and locally in texas, the video is both hilarious and endearing and proves that all you need is a good idea to win over an audience. consider me won.

song of the day

kishi bashi – room for dream – manchester

of montreal’s kishi bashi, or otherwise known as k, released his debut solo ep this summer. it’s very non-of montreal, but very good. it’s mellow, lush, and gorgeous. this is my favorite on the ep. it’s an orchestral beauty that’s perfect for quiet sundays. you can stream the whole ep on his bandcamp.
