spacehog – resident alien – in the meantime

it’s 1995. the brits release their debut album. it was well received world wide and features their biggest hit, this rock gem that was their poppiest song amongst an otherwise heavily glam rock album. there’s a lot i listened to in the 90′s that will never touch a record needle again or compact disc player, but this song isn’t one of them.

mode moderne – real goths

these vancouver goths just released a new 7″ and it’s a sultry synth delight that even non-goths will enjoy. the cheeky lyrics are on the nose and for anyone who’s gone through an all black phase, you will sing in agreement. there’s a ting of morrissey in the vocal stylings and it’s very fitting for the bleak hearted. www.myspace.com/modemoderne

the russian futurists – our thickness – paul simon

it’s 2005. canada’s matthew adam hart, the man behind one of my favorite underrated bands, releases his third album. it’s a knockout and features some of my favorite songs of all time, this one included. the video is the perfect depiction of how i feel when those horns in the chorus start blowin.

chromeo – business casual – when the night falls

the funk duo have always been on the forefront of sick music videos and their latest, directed by the consistently genius directors daniels, is another gem on the roster. it’s so good, it’s best watched and not so much explained. i don’t want to foil your enjoyment with my silly words, but i will say it features some foxy pregnants ladies. enjoy.

dum dum girls – coming down – only in dreams

the l.a. girls are back next month with their highly anticipated sophomore album on sub pop. the first taste is an epic ballad reminiscent of mazzy star greatness and evokes the kind of emotions that only truly great songs can. it’s a stunner dripping with reverb that proves these ladies are not ones to f*ck with. www.wearedumdumgirls.com
