flashback of the week

kasabian – kasabian – club foot

it’s 2004. the brits release their debut album and their best. this is their third single, which really sparked their success. i frackin love this song. it’s a thumping, energetic gem and as i get myself psyched for a new year, this is the kind of song i put on my playlists to roll in the new year. p.s. the video is as amazing as the song.

video of the week

kotchy – two – sometimes i get down

this one man brooklyn experimental hip hopper is a unique beat innovator and quite the skilled remixer. he’s got a new album coming out in february and he released this video for his new single. it’s an impressive use of light projection and adds another cool dimension to homeboy’s already dope jam. if you are unfamiliar with kotchy, get to know him now.

song of the day

rae spoon – rich boy

rae spoon has been a name in canada’s indie scene for a decade now. the transgender folk artist and country crooner embraced electronic music on his last album and embraced it well. this month, he offered a cover of hall and oates’ 1977 “rich girl” for herohill‘s christmas hall and oates’ compilation album. it’s an amazing minimalistic electronic cover and his voice, as always, is striking and distinguished. you can listen to the rest of the herohall and oates compliation here. www.myspace.com/raespoon
