flashback of the week

the strokes – is this it – hard to explain

it’s 2002. these well-to-do new york kids released their highly anticipated debut album and it was instant classic. this was their first single. as overplayed and overeverything these guys have been, no can deny you’ve loved them at one time or another, or if you are like me, have and will always love them. the boys are rumored to be releasing their new album next spring and this is one fan who can.not.wait. they certainly knocked it out of the ballpark with this song with a hip as dip video to match.

video of the week

cloud nothings – turning on – hey cool kid

these cleveland boys released their debut album last week, as well as their video for the album’s single. the song is definitely a success in lo-fi indie pop terms. it’s catchy and fuzzy and on most everyone’s playlist. the video is a charming story of a high school nerd when he, in weird science style, fashions himself a robot to take on the cooler jock in school. i’m sure more than some of you have dreamt of this very same thing, myself included.

song of the day

dent may – eastover wives

this mississippi eclectic crooner released a new 7″ last month and even though the weather’s kinda crappy here in l.a., it’s a lovely day to sing in the rain. he released a solid album last year, the good feeling of dent may & his magnificient ukulele. if you are new to mr. may, it’s the perfect music to bliss out to when you want retro, semi-disco, definitely loungy, and utterly cool tunage. www.myspace.com/dentmay
