flashback of the week

jacques Brel – les bourgeois

it’s 1962. this belgian phenomenon releases his sixth album to the world. although belgian, he lived half of his life in france and sang almost all of his songs in french. his songs have been covered by david bowie, scott walker, ray charles, frank sinatra, and nina simone to name a few. he is legend as legend can be. his life’s work is expansive and complex and brilliant. if you unfamiliar with this early troubadour, start from the beginning and enjoy the ride.

video of the week

surfer blood – astro coast – floating vibes

these florida boys released their debut album early this year and it’s been agreed upon that it’s a solid debut. this song is the opening track on the album and their latest video. it’s a great spoof on late t.v. that we have been suckered into watching at some point another.

song of the day

burning god little – notes on being snowblind

i know next to nothing about this one man norweigan electronic indie pop mystery. i know his name is martin hartgen and that’s pretty much the extent of my knowledge. oh well, my lack of knowledge will not put an end to my enjoyment of this delightful song. it’s an airy, yet peppy tune which has all the right elements to compliment this lovely sunday and get your week started on the right foot. www.last.fm
