flashback of the week

colourmusic – f, monday, orange, february, venus, lunatic, 1 or 13 – yes!

it’s 2008. this stillwater, oklahoma band released their debut album and it probably fell under your radar, but that’s everyone reason to give them a listen now. this is a self-made video in their hometown, the city of stillwater. the band members are dressed in white and their attempts to get the locals to “give it up” is pretty endearing. their sophmore album is rumored to be released early next year and if you haven’t heard of these boys, now is your moment to get on board. http://www.myspace.com/colourmusic

video of the week

ted leo and the pharmacisits – the brutalist bricks – bottled in cork

this d.c. band has been an indie staple since the late 90s. they released their sixth album earlier this year and if you are in need of a good chuckle, i’m sure this video will give at least give you one good hearty haha. they’ve cast funnyman paul s. thompkins to help them produce a “broadway” musical. if you missed this on funny or die a couple of weeks ago, catch it now.

song of the day

the duke and the king – long live the duke – shine on you

oh happy day for our country’s hard workers. i hope you are doing jack sh*t and enjoying a beautiful day of rest. in the spirit of relaxation, i am offering this gorgeous harmonica rich tune from new york’s catskills via the duke and the king to encourage the kind of leisure i’m sure you well deserve. they are releasing their sophmore album at the end of the month and if it’s anywhere near as good as their last, we are all in for a fall treat. www.myspace.com/dukeandtheking
