video of the week

the books – the way out – a cold freezin’ night

this samples master duo from nyc have waited five long years to come back with a full length album releasing this month and it’s a welcome comeback. as always, a sense of humor amongst the unusual is their style and this video is one glorious edit of pretty awesome and random 80′s stock footage giving the kids’ dialogue in the song just the right touch of tongue and cheek. there’s more fun to be had at their website.

the turles – happy together – she’s my girl

it’s 1967. this california band releases the album that puts them on the map. their most famous single is “happy together”, which everyone and their mother knows, but this lesser known track is probably every turtles fan’s favorite song. it’s psychedelic rock at its best and it’s definitely not a song i’ve heard one too many times. enjoy.

song of the day

baths – hall (the one am radio Remix feat. the los feliz ladies choir)

happy independence day fellow americans. i hope you are standing by a hot grill waiting for a hot piece of meat or drinking something carbonated that’s not good for you. with that said, i hope you’re chillin. to get you in the fireworks mood, here’s a lovely remix of an equally lovely song by l.a.’s will wiesenfeld, who goes by the name of baths.  the song features the angelic voices of the los feliz ladies choir instead of wiesenfeld’s falsetto, but it’s coo, cause it does justice to the original and adds a certain sparkle and tonight we all want the sparkles, don’t we?  www.myspace.com/bathsmusic
