flashback

cyndi lauper – she’s so unusual – she bop

it’s 1984. the album for which this track was released from made her first the female singer to have four top-five singles released from one album. she’s a legend. parts of this video is remind of another 80′s gem, better off dead, so i love it and the whole thing is ridiculous, so i love it.

video of the week

tame impala – innerspeaker – solitude is bliss

this three piece aussie band is releasing their debut album later this month and they are already quite a-buzz. they’re opening for mgmt this summer and i’m sure it will be one psychedelic night fans would possibly sell a kidney for. this video for their single is worth a kidney too. it’s pretty hilarious and a certainly clever (i do have a dark sense of humor) conception of an apocalyptic allusion for one anxious dude.

carlos d leaves interpol

wtf? wtf? wtf? interpol posted this on their website -

Dear fans,

As some of you have surely heard, Interpol has completed it’s new album.

It was recorded at Electric Lady Studios, New York, and mixed with Alan Moulder at Assault and Battery, London.

The four of us poured our collective heart into this music and we are very proud and excited to share it.

It’s a heavy record. But we’re feeling limber; and we’re going to carry it all around the world for you.

Touring begins this summer, so check here soon for announcements and show dates.

There is more:

Sadly, Carlos will not be joining us.

After the completion of the album, Carlos informed the rest of us that he would be leaving the band. He has decided to follow another path, and to pursue new goals. This separation is amicable, and we whole-heartedly wish him great happiness and success. We will remain, as always, deeply respectful fans of this blazingly talented individual.

We can tell you that we have some very exciting new recruits joining us on the road. So stay tuned – we will promptly be revealing the identities of these illustrious players.

We eagerly await the opportunity to reconvene with you all
- the greatest fans known to Rock.

Thank you.
Interpol

craaaazy. this is the second band member interpol will replace. dammit. i love me some carlos d. and who doesn’t? i single handedly witnessed him blaze trends with his famous locks and  fashion sense in new york and most importantly, he was a hell of a bassist for one of my all time favorite bands. what next mr d.?

song of the day

rasputina – sister kinderhook – holocaust of giants

this cello rock band has been around for almost two decades and are releasing their seventh album next month and yet, still remain widely unknown. a shame. front woman, melora creager was a touring cellist for nirvana. how cool is that? well, the cello is one of my favorite instruments and this new track has just the right amount of quirk to start off an interesting week.
