interpol cancel tour dates

since bono’s back gave out and u2 has delayed their u.s. tour, interpol, who was sharing their stage this summer, has done the same. this was posted on their website -

” Good day to you all.

Unfortunately, due to the postponement of the upcoming U2 US dates, Interpol has had to rework its summer tour schedule.

With the exception of four shows, we have had to cancel our announced dates. Shows in Rochester, Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Allentown will be happening. The rest of the shows will be rescheduled. If you have purchased tickets for a cancelled date, please contact the “point of purchase” and get a full refund.

We lament the change in plans, apologize for the inconvenience, and assure you that we’ll do you right – when the time is right and the light is nice. ”

when on rock star goes down… they all do.

peter wolf crier – inter-be – crutch & cane

happy memorial day fellow americans. hopefully, you’ve got the day off. i cannot think of a better way to celebrate the day than by turning up the stereo with some truly awesome mid-west tunage. this minnesota duo just dropped their debut album last week and it’s top notch indie-folk rock fit for a day like today. take the day to relax and salute. www.myspace.com/peterwolfcrier

flashback

the jam – going underground

it’s 1980. these guys were huge in the uk, boasting 18 back to back top 40 singles and now they are icons. this song went straight to number one and 30 years later it’s still kick-ass. what more needs to be said? it’s early paul weller. it’s the jam. they are legend. the public gets what the public wants.

video of the week

boy 8-bit – the keep

i’ll admit it without shame – i love video games and clearly, so does uker boy 8-bit. he’s a big up and coming name in the electro underground and his latest video for his new single is one crazy homage to video games of old and in this case, crazy is weird is good. beep beep.

song of the day

vehicle blues – changer

damn this song is good. let chicago gabe holcombe get you in the that lazy bar-b-qing, cheap beer drinking in the afternoon mood. he’s just released his first professional e.p. and it’s full of fuzzy guitar that will make your sunglasses-wearing self just that much cooler. www.myspace.com/vehicleblues www.bridgetownrecords.info

artist of the month

lcd soundsystem

james murphy has done it again and maybe for the last time, if in fact this is happening is his last album. this month, artist props of the month was a no brainer. if you have listened to the latest lcd soundsystem gem, then you know, the man has pulled back more layers of his electronic onion-ness to reveal a deeper, darker murphy that is still danceable and lovable and the world cannot help but sing his praises again. so, mr. murphy, if this is the last we’ll hear of you (i’m dubious, but nonetheless) – weerd. you done good.

song of the day

mndr – e.p.e – i go away

this one woman rising star writes for santogold and has opened for electronic gurus the shins, har mar superstar, numbers, and deerhoof. she dropped an ep last month and i’m feeling it’s stand out track, the ep’s slow jam today. it’s ripe for a open-windowed ride to the beach with your arms hanging out like a bad car commercial – in the best way.

song of the day

hawney troof – shed skin – nothing left to do but go

this oakland electronic dance-punk guru released a freeee ep last month full of hand-pumpin remixes and this song is perfect to get you stoked for memorial day weekend. it samples one very famous hipity hop song and is a true anthem for a long weekend. if this doesn’t get you in the mood to bar-b-b-q the heck out of some chicken or bake under the unofficial summer sun, then you could very well be a square. it’s a three day weekend, ya’ll, get your freak on.

the mynabirds – what we lose in the fire we gain in the flood – let the record go

i’m gonna keep riding this soul kick cause it’s been good to the week. this nebraska band released their debut album late last month and it’s been burning my ears ever since. fronted by laura burhenn, the band has successfully managed to merge motown, blues, and blue-eyed soul a la dusty springfeild. oh yeah, white peops be feelin it too. (no offense people)

hugo – bread & butter

this new york cool cat is blowin up. i may be catching him right before he gets ridiculously huge and could still be perceived as indie or i may not be watching enough television. his tunage has been featured in commercials and used for shows. but, really whatever, right? this song is too damn slick not feature. he released two singles early this month. this song is choice, although his other single, a cover of jay-z’s “99 problems” is preeetty incredible. i’m on a soul kick these past couple days. i just be feelin it with the heat ya’ll.  www.myspace.com/hugoofficial

futureheads may write a musical

these english lads haven’t even released their new album (well, overseas yes, here in the states, no) and they are already talking about their next project. guitarist ross millard told clash during an interview, “we want to focus on things that aren’t futureheads , or maybe not typical futureheads and release it on the label,” he said. “it won’t be a traditional album next time. we’ve talked about doing a musical even.” “something a little bit more outside of the cycle of recording and releasing album. we want something with more of an arts element, with more of a performance element.” a certain someone here grew up around musicals and thinks this news is the next best thing to puppets singing about racism. gold star for you indie rockers who get that reference.

song of the day

aloe blacc – i need a dollar (stern remix)

this l.a. soulster released his debut solo album 4 years ago and just a few months ago came back with an e.p. and a single sooo f*in good it’s been remixed to shit and most notably used as the intro to hbo’s how to make it america. well, this particular remix has finally done the grade a song a solid and remixed it right. get hip to this.

florida governor sued by david byrne

florida governor, charlie christ, used the talking heads’ song “road to nowhere” in a campaign without permission from the band. and mr. byrne is none too pleased. he is suing for one million dollars. the ad was removed after warner bros. contacted the governor. byrne made this comment to billboard, “is not about politics… it’s about copyright and about the fact that it does imply that I would have licensed it and endorsed him and whatever he stands for.” christ already has a slew of controversy surrounding him. now he can add thief to the stew.
