fucked up and xiu xiu lose rolling stone lawsuit

fucked up and xiu xiu filed a lawsuit against rolling stone magazine for placing smoking ads next to their section in “the indie rock universe” gatefold, claiming they were wrongly associated with the filthy habit. a three-judge panel dismissed the lawsuit honoring first amendment rights for noncommercial speech… sorry guys. justice is hard when california judges probably don’t know who the hell you are.

marky ramone – punk rock drumming his way for beginners is an instructional dvd by the famous ramone paving the way for wannabe punk rock drummers to thrash hard. does it cover how to be a drunk and get fired from one of the greatest punk bands ever? let’s hope.

p.s. i love you is a duo from kingston, ontario. they released this single on vinyl in august and i can’t stop listening. it’s infectious and rockin. cudos to these two dudes for creating such a big sound between the two of them (or 2 1/2 of them. ok. sorry. that was mean).

magnetic fields scoring 20,000 leagues under the sea

the new album released this tuesday, but lead singer stephin merritt is already talking about his next project, a live score to 1917′s 20,000 leagues under the sea. he’ll be syncing his lyrics to the movie dialogue and performing the extravaganza  in san francisco in may. sounds way cooler than that pink floyd wizard of oz shit.

shearwater releasing 75-page album dossier

feb 23rd is the release date for shearwater’s new album, the golden archipelago. along with the tunage, they are also releasing a 75-page colection of lyrics, art, photos, and diagrams the band put together called the golden dossier. i miss album art, too, but daannng. full story at spinner.

itunes raises $3 million for haiti

itunes’ compiliation, hope for haiti, raised $3 million for haiti disaster relief. it is also the first digital-only release to reach the top of billboard’s chart it’s first week.

steve schiltz, lead singer of longwave, has come out with a side project called hurricane bells. tonight is a ghost is gorgeous and well crafted. fans of longwave will find schiltz’s quieter side a lovely departure. perfect with a cup of joe on a lazy sunday.

susan sarandon joins of montreal on stage in nyc

of montreal played a show at the highline ballroom in nyc last night. unexpectedly susan sanrandon went on stage with the band and spanked two men dressed as pigs… what a badass. of montreal was later joined by solange, who will appear on their next album. full story at pitchfork

according to billboard news, in true druggy strung-out style, babyshambles’ lead singer, pete doherty, was fined by an english court room when his heroine accidentally fell out of his pocket. slick dick.
